JSON Formatter & Minifier
Pretty-print JSON with indentation, or minify it to one line. Validates syntax locally without clearing input.
How it works
- Requires valid JSON. Trailing commas and comments are not supported.
About JSON formatting & minification
What is JSON formatting and minifying?
JSON (JavaScript Object Notation) is a lightweight, text-based data interchange format. Formatting (pretty-printing) adds consistent 2-space indentation and line breaks to make nested objects and arrays readable for debugging and review.
Minification strips all unnecessary whitespace and line breaks, producing a compact single-line payload ideal for HTTP transmission, database storage, and caching. All formatting and validation happens strictly in your browser runtime; nothing is uploaded.
Format and minify JSON in code
- JavaScript
// Format with 2 spaces const formatted = JSON.stringify(JSON.parse(raw), null, 2); // Minify to single line const minified = JSON.stringify(JSON.parse(raw));- Python
import json data = json.loads(raw) formatted = json.dumps(data, indent=2) minified = json.dumps(data, separators=(',', ':'))
JSON formatting FAQ
- Does JSON formatting validate syntax?
- Yes. Formatting parses the payload with strict JSON syntax. Trailing commas, single quotes, unquoted keys, and JavaScript comments are rejected with line indicators without clearing your input.
- Are large JSON payloads supported?
- Because processing occurs locally in memory via browser native parsing, multi-megabyte payloads format rapidly without network timeouts or upload size limits.
- Does this tool support JSON5 or comments?
- No. This tool strictly adheres to standard RFC 8259 JSON specifications to ensure interoperability with standard parsers across languages.
